Mga Kwento ni lola Basyang- Ang Garapon

repost from patch.

a good reminder for all of us ;)

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "Yes."The professor then produced two beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. "'Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things --- your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions --- and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. "The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else --- the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you. "Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first --- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand." One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented. The professor smiled and said, "I'm glad you asked. The beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers with a friend."

Sarah G.

and speaking of fashion magazines, have you guys seen Sarah Geronimo on the cover of this month's Preview Magazine? I almost fainted when i saw this at 7-11.... Gorgeous! I just know it had to be the magic wand of Juan Sarte and I was right! My god, idol ko talaga si Juan Sarte! ang galing talaga nya! reminds me of the legandary Judy Ann Santos cover of Mega Magazine a few years ago. I'm getting Nora aunor vibes on this girl, i'm telling ya....

I Hate Sarah Palin

Now that the U.S. elections are less than 30 days away, let me state for the record: I HATE SARAH PALIN. Let's make it clear, obviously, iam not a US citizen (thank god!) and more obviously will not be voting. Let's just say that i look at the US elections like an basketball game of Ateneo vs Lasalle.

Although, I do have some misgivings about Obama's plan to give back jobs to US soil, Boo-hoo for a call center subsidized economy like ours but good for them, This guy will do what is best for his country's citizens and for that,(let's save the America is Evil discussion for next time shall we?) i respect him as a politician. which is more than i can say for Sarah Palin.

I watched the debate between her and Biden and it made me wonder why Mc Cain chose her to be his vice presidential nominee. The old guy must be nearer to senility than we thought!
Everytime she positions herself as one of the masses, Homer Simpson comes to my mind. Well at least i can still give homie the benefit of the doubt if he can answer pressing issues about running the country.
She is right though. McCAin is a Maverick. He defied all logic and intelligence when he chose her to be his cheerleader-er, i mean vicepresidential candidate.
p.s. Fox News, critizised newsweek for putting an unretouched picture of the sara palin on the cover. Newsweek ain't a fashion magazine you idiots. and read the title/ she's suppose dto be one of the folks, wrinkles and all. (she doesn't look that bad actually. she has great skin!)

EKHHH, EKHH....

The Orphange

guys, DON'T DON'T DON'T miss The Orphange (La Orfanato) at this year's Spanish Film festival in Greenbellt 1 !

it's scary shocking, sad, haunting...although it was directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, you can see producer Guilllermo del Toro's (pan's labrynth) pawprints everywhere. Iwatched this with my sister clutching my shirt, me hiding behind the guy-formerly-known-as-my-boyfriend and him, covering his face with a blanket and trying not to stangle putot, all of us backed up against a wall and trying to get as far away from the damned TV as possible!

The Orphanage is.."about a long-abandoned orphanage with a troubling past. As a child, young orphan Laura spent her formative years being cared for by the staff of a large orphanage located by the Spanish seaside. Those were some of the happiest years of Laura's life, and now, 30 years later, the former charge returns to the dilapidated institution with her husband, Carlos, and their seven-year-old son, Simon, to reopen the orphanage as a facility for disabled children. However, something haunts the darkened hallways of this silent, stately manor...." One day, Laura finds simon collecting seashells in a cave nearby. when laura sees him dropping them on the way back to the house she asks simon why he si doing that and he replies -so his new imaginary friend "tomas" can follow them...when simon goes missing it is up tp laura to figure out who tomas really is and play the game in order to save simon...haven't screamed like this since sukob and the ring.:D

***four stars for a beautiful production, good cast, good storyline and genuine scream inducing scenes! i*one star short for ...SPOILER ALERT...using Simon being HIV positive to explain his sixth sense..(awcome on!) and including an bligatory gory scene...and finally for keeping the mood gloomy throughout the movie made it a little draggingbut all in all, a good movie nevertheless.

65 pesos lang daw. mas mura pa sa deebeedee!

schedule of the screening here:

Nakakita ka na nang asong may six pack?

saan kaya sya nag woworkout?
umpisahan na angh body building sessions ni putot!

Calvin and Hobbes says farewell

100 year old mansion

is a 100 year old teak mansion by the river in ayutthaya. I decided to book this since i wanted to stay somewhere old and authentic in ayutthaya and this was as old as you can get. After an exhausting day with the elephants at the royal elephant kraal, we checked in to Ban Kunpra.

The first order of the stay of course was to scare the crap out of each other. Then we proceeded to fight over who sleeps on the side of the bed where the creepy transvestite painting can watch your every move. After kicking brian over to HIS side of the bed and discovering a peeping tom outside our window, we joined the hotel staff in hunting down the now missing poisonous snake that someone found in the garden earlier. We checked out the outhouse (toilet and bath were outside the mansion) and decided that not taking a bath for a day is sometimes good foy your health, especially if this is where a certain bright green snake may be hiding. We played with a shih tzu the size of a c2 bottle and ate the tastiest egg flavored crepe in the world, and finally went to sleep.

The room we got was 650 Baht. it had no aircon but the river breeze was cool enough for a comfortable sleep. the room was a little dark mostly due to the wood's dark finish. The bed was high enough for you to break you neck if you fall off it and our private balcony was old enough to collapse if Mahal and Mura so much as breathed on it.

The main balcony and riverside restaurant offered a great view by the river too. there were large kois swimming about in a pond which brian attempted to murder by feeding sago, and an idoor cofeehouse where no one wants to sit. Who wants to stay inside when you have this?

So if you want fun and adventure and have an insurance policy, skip the boring hotels and try Ban Kunpra Instead.
