The Orphange

guys, DON'T DON'T DON'T miss The Orphange (La Orfanato) at this year's Spanish Film festival in Greenbellt 1 !

it's scary shocking, sad, haunting...although it was directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, you can see producer Guilllermo del Toro's (pan's labrynth) pawprints everywhere. Iwatched this with my sister clutching my shirt, me hiding behind the guy-formerly-known-as-my-boyfriend and him, covering his face with a blanket and trying not to stangle putot, all of us backed up against a wall and trying to get as far away from the damned TV as possible!

The Orphanage is.."about a long-abandoned orphanage with a troubling past. As a child, young orphan Laura spent her formative years being cared for by the staff of a large orphanage located by the Spanish seaside. Those were some of the happiest years of Laura's life, and now, 30 years later, the former charge returns to the dilapidated institution with her husband, Carlos, and their seven-year-old son, Simon, to reopen the orphanage as a facility for disabled children. However, something haunts the darkened hallways of this silent, stately manor...." One day, Laura finds simon collecting seashells in a cave nearby. when laura sees him dropping them on the way back to the house she asks simon why he si doing that and he replies -so his new imaginary friend "tomas" can follow them...when simon goes missing it is up tp laura to figure out who tomas really is and play the game in order to save simon...haven't screamed like this since sukob and the ring.:D

***four stars for a beautiful production, good cast, good storyline and genuine scream inducing scenes! i*one star short for ...SPOILER ALERT...using Simon being HIV positive to explain his sixth sense..(awcome on!) and including an bligatory gory scene...and finally for keeping the mood gloomy throughout the movie made it a little draggingbut all in all, a good movie nevertheless.

65 pesos lang daw. mas mura pa sa deebeedee!
